Antabuse (disulfiram) is a medication that prevents people diagnosed with chronic alcoholism from drinking anymore by interfering with the way alcohol is metabolized and causing unpleasant side effects. Certain medical conditions can influence your dosage or prevent you from taking this medicine at all. These conditions include but are not limited to diabetes, liver or kidney disease, brain damage, thyroid disease, or some seizure disorder. In some cases if your health condition causes concerns of your health care provider you may be placed under close observation for some time to make sure you benefit from the treatment and your dose is working fine for you.
